If this isn't reason enough for supporting membership status I don't know what is.I will try not to have that as my avatar.
This one would work better with sound.
I'd like to hear the story on this one. It's crazy...I'm sure I saw a Mister Wizard type thing where this was done with an aluminum can. I don't remember the specifics though.
I can't tell you how this was triggered, but that here is an implosion. Basically, we say that something explodes when it breaks from too much pressure on the inside. An implosion is when there's too little pressure inside. That Mister Wizard can crush is done by cooling the can really quickly IIRC.
My guess is they suck out the air inside from the tube at the bottom that goes off camera. Eventually the structure would buckle, but not right away, if at all. The 1st lightbulb was a vacuum inside.
