You are in luck scotch - the rack unit I made is at home out of my rack sitting on top of some of my practice junk.

Bass to board, XLR from rack unit to board - done. The 1/4 from the rack unit to the preamp is normally just a 6" cable that is always connected when in the rack.

Edit: BTW - The power/distribution could just as easily be built into a standard size effect box you can chuck behind your amp. I just wanted extra AC outlets for my other rack gear. It doesn't really have to be rack-sized.

Thanks! That is awesome! I would be hitting you up for design specifics except that I have 3 different operating voltages for my pedals. I don't see that working over an xlr cable...

Your setup really is brilliant, though. xlr's are readily available everywhere you play, so you duck the problem of proprietary cabling, plus you eliminate any unnecessary cable length by plugging straight into the pedalboard. You really thought this out!

Thanks for the compliments. Actually, I did limit my pedal selection to 9V only.

3 voltages would work over 2 XLRs though ;)

There is another way to do it, but not as efficient - you send the highest voltage down the XLR and put lower voltage dividers/regulators in the box on the board. Not real hard, you just need the right voltage regulators on the board. I'll have to think about how I would do that - but it's not rocket science (I do rocket science during the day).

That could work... hmmmm.

One of my pedals runs on ac, so I'd also need a rectifier, right?

-or- could 120v standard ac be run down the xlr to my board mounted power supply? I could foresee some noise issues...

A rectifier actually turns AC into DC - that isn't what you need.

120V down the cable is a REALLY bad idea - you want AC and signal cables to be separated by distance and at right angles to each other if possible. This is the opposite of how an XLR cable is made.

Or, you could replace the pedal that runs on AC ;)

I desperately need to get these things mounted and in a more organized fashion. So what do you guys think would fit my collection? I plan on adding a octaver (probably mPOG, maybe a whammy), and an expression control to the b:assmaster.

How I have the assmaster set up in the loop of the qtron is about perfect for me. The volume control on the assmaster let's me use the qtron without the huge volume spike (the assmaster is always on), and with the sensitivity control turned all the way down, only the sound of the filter comes through. When I turn the sensitivity up a little, gated burpy precise envelofuzz tones are to be had. Crank the sensitivity, and I can get a really great synth like tone that I actually like. That's kinda why I want an expression control. I wonder if josh would mod an old one? :hmm:

Not really. I usually have a lower gain setting, about 10-12 o'clock. I haven't really found an awful setting yet though.

I didn't think my little smarty pants quote from ol' Albert would raise such a ruckus! I'll be bringing my board home from our rehearsal space this week. It's only fair that I post a picture of it so you guys can all give me some grief back. :D

Look for a posting of it around Tuesday or Wednesday night.

Got a new phone. Got impatient not having anything to post here, so I snapped a quick photo with it. It's a mess right now because of recording. That's my frontman's DD3 off to the side I was using to increase the synthiness of the part we were recording today.

Oh, and all the debris on the carpet are little pieces of drum sticks from my drummer. He's an animal.

Can understand! Am in a rare luxury position of buying from the U.K. at the moment as it's cheaper than from here!:confused: Will take advantage when I come and visit my family this weekend back in Warwickshire! :)

Should have my 'perfect' set-up once this and the Eventide Pitchfactor arrive as the Wah (Dunlop 105Q) was the only remaining weak link................

WHAT?!?! Are you forgetting where you are? :eek:

You:
A) Acquire pedalboard
B) Fill said pedalboard with as many pedals as can possibly fit. The pedals should have as many LED's, weird shaped knobs, jacks, potentiometers, and toggle switches that can fit into each enclosure.
C) Plug in and create sonic mayhem

This IS the FX forum of talkbass afterall :smug:

What....did you think you buy pedals based on SOUND?? :p
