my recently put together home studio in the spare bedroom.

i finally upgraded from garageband to logic pro, so now i'm on a learning curve.

enjoying playing around with all the UAD plug-ins which came with my used apollo solo.

Naigewron, how does the solo compare to the old focusrite? I've almost gone that route, but I've gotten stuck on the focusrite.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the Focusrite, for sure. I'm sure those with better ears than me can hear differences in preamp quality, but I'm not one of those guys.

For me, the primary reason for the upgrade was to have better control of the ins and outs of the interface through the software, plus the ability to run plugins right in the unit if I want to (only UA plugins, of course), to further minimise any perceived latency. I also do all my bass and guitar recording in the box (through plugins, no external units), and the UA interfaces seem to just be a bit better suited for that, with less tweaking of the gain staging needed in my DAW or plugins. Just plug and play, and everything reacts how it's supposed to.

UA are also running a campaign through november and decemeber with a bunch of extra plugins included with new purchases, so that was also a nice bonus.
