Post your VT Bass pedal settings please!

I've always thought of the VT Bass as a 'preamp' more than an effect. That said, when I use it it always goes at the very end of everything: either right before I hit my amp, or send a DI out to the house (unless the house wants a totally 'dry'/bass-only signal). There's no 'correct' way as long as it sounds the way you want it to, but any effects which may change the gain staging of the signal before it hits the VT will affect how it interacts with the overdrive character of the pedal.

I was just wondering because I'm starting to make a small peadlboard and I was thinking is there any "correct" way of seting up the effects?

I have a

Boss TU-3
Aguilar TCL compressor
Taursu Abigar
El Grande bass fuzz
VT bass

Is there any more or less correct of setting up those effects?

I agree, I run mine last in the FX line, right in front of my LM II. Been living happily ever after that way since I got my first VT a few years ago. My VTD is in the same place. I like it there so much it's literally bolted down to my pedal board.

Lately I've also been using soley for end-of-the-chain tone shaping too. When I'm running other effects into it, small changes in the VT that sound the same with a clean signal suddenly have a huge effect on tone.

Funny - I traded a guy my 15" Neo mag speaker for a Line 6 Bass Pod. Once I finally had some time to play with the thing, I totally fell in love with setting 6A. Since he didn't give me a manual, I went to their web site to see what is was. Turned out it was their '74 SVT into an 8x10 cab model. I thought I'd take it to rehearsal and A/B it against my VTD. Well, wouldn't you know it sounded almost identical to my main setting on my VTD!?! Just a hair dirtier, but basically the same. Just thought I'd share that with you all, I found it quite humorous.

What's setting 6A?

Setting 6A on the Line 6 Bass Pod is their version of the '74 SVT into an 8x10 cab.

Here's the settings I used when I was in the studio last. They're a little different now, those settings were tweaked to sound good through the mic I was using. It's still very similar though.

Start with fat tube and tweak slightly

Or turn all the dials to 12 oclock and then adjust to your taste.

I personally dont care for DRIVE at all. I only keep it at 9 to keep the overall volume up.

Does anyone have a suggested setting for a "gritty" tone?

Not overdriven, distorted or "clanky."

Kind of like Geddy's tone on the Snakes & Arrows Live DVD or his tone on Clockwork Angels (The Anarchist, Seven Cities Of Gold)

In case anyone's wondering, I'm using a Jazz bass for this.

Try turning up the character knob a little and maybe wind the gain down a little if you don't want any overdrive happening. Bare in mind though, that if you can hear a bass that sounds pretty gritty in a full mix, there is definitely a lot more distortion happening on the bass than you might think. It just blends into the mix and you don't hear it as much.
