Pot and cap values for humbucking Nordstrand Nj4sv's

Hi,

Maybe this has been asked somewhere before but I'm a bit busy to look stuff up so forgive me if this is the case.

My Audere pre is beginning to die on me (random cutout's) and i've been thinking to make my bass passive for quite some time now. I've got 3 eq's to screw around with (Audere, Valvedrive and my amp itself) and frankly that is a bit too much for me (I've been running the Audere at neutral for a while now)

So, I got Nordstrand Jazz humbuckers (Nj4sv's) that are designed to be as close as possible to the true single coil jazz pickups they have.

What value pots do I put in the get a tone as close to a normal J-bass as possible? I hear 250K is the standard, but as mine are humbuckers do I put in 500K's? Also, what value cap do I use?

Additionally, for a blend control, do I use a different value pot?

Thanks alot for any help, it's much appreciated.

We design for and recommend 250k pots for all our pickups except some guitar humbuckers.

That said, you're more than welcome to try 500k pots to see if it works for you. You'll generally get a touch more output and more high end.

Oh and for the caps we like .047mf. Which is the traditional cap goes with 250k pots.

That's too bad you pre is flaking out on you. I have NJ4SV's and an Audere in my '06 H1 jazz and absolutely love the sound.

I wish they made humbuckers for a Ric though. ...or at least for the neck position. I can always use a jazz pup in the bridge position. I'll bet an NJ4SE would sound pretty good.. I may have to be a guinea pig if I can just get a single pup. :)
FWIW, I also have NP4's in my '79 P-bass and they sound great too.

So I replaced the preamp with passive components and damn does it sound killer!

Totally different than the Audere, but exactly what i was looking for. I never heard my bass with passive electronics, because I had the preamp in from the get go.

I put a 500K blend pot in instead of a 250k and it's working out nicely. I am experiencing a reduced volume when centered but that can't be avoided I guess.

Master volume and tone are both 250K (couldn't find a 250K blend on short notice).
