Potentiometer lug wiring

So the lo down is I went to replace all the crapped out pots in my Ibanez GSR200L which I had previously eliminated the phat 2 circuit from (just don't need/want it) and after making a diagram of the existing setup(which worked fine aside from the bad pots) I disconnected about half the wires and ended up having to take care of something else. Well when I got back to it I reviewed my diagram to the remaining connections and noticed that I had written down a wrong connection and possibly others I don't know. I've never had such a bumbass moment. In frustration I began to rewire it and part way in decided I'd better look up some basic diagrams for this setup, pretty straightforward exept the diagrams all show the opposite side lug connected to ground than what I had as well as the tone cap on the opposite side. Can anyone help explain the relevancy of this? Does it matter which side? Just hoping for some input before I end up stripping it back and starting over.

Update, went and pulled everything and wired it to the attached drawing. Left my bridge pup out of the lineup, don't really use it anyway. So it would seem the lug positions have something to do with the wiper directionality?? Idk. Doesn't matter that much as it's working so I can play again. Only weird thing I noticed with this setup is (and I don't understand it) that even with the vol pot in the off position a signal still goes to my tuner. Then I noticed when I turned the tone pot the signal was no longer making it to the tuner. Freakin weird. Sorry for adding a useless thread. Oh well.

Thanks for the replys.
DiabolusInMusic- I had a similar drawing but went with the other one just to simplify as much as possible. My theory was less there, less to go wrong.

LoveThatBass- I know to view pot from the back, thanks. And please don't take this the wrong way but your description of setup leaves room for misinterpretation as even though we are viewing the pot from the back the row of lugs could be positioned above or below which would entirely change your right hand/ left hand description.
