Power Amp Question

I'm stuck on the alarming prospect of running a 4 ohm head at significant volume with only a 2 ohm load.

yeah, running "disposable" amps like b*gers to the wall like that makes me nervous too.

I wouldn't run any 4 ohm amp at 2 ohms. Even one I really didn't like. That's just not enough of a motive for murder.

Even a good one won't work well like that. Some get unstable. Good way to destroy it. You'll get poor results, more distortion.

Just rewire the cabs to give an 8 ohm load between the two.

Im new to the ohm concept. I normally hook it up to whatever sounds best. How would I do that? The cabs are both wired at 4 ohms.

You don't do it, that's how. You've got two 4 ohm cabs, spend a few bucks and buy a decent power amp as a few have suggested. Words of wisdom from TBer / tech / guitarist / soundguy walterw:

"with two 4Ω cabs and a sansamp, a regular power amp makes perfect sense. even a 4-500 watt per side amp will be way more powerful than what you have now, so you can run it all lower, not stress any components, and still kick ass with it. try a real amp, like a QSC (hey, bob!)"

Too many folks labor under the delusion that there exists a vast wealth of secret, untapped volume & power within any subset of audio components. Of course, the manufacturers won't reveal the truth because they want you to go out and buy more of their stuff! TBer Bob Lee is in on the conspiracy, too.
