C'mon you know if your bass looks like name x's bass you will sound just like he does!

It's not like those sound and recording engineers do anything to the sound in those multimillion dollar recording studios!

And like wow! Every one knows if the internet says super dooper cable at $2k a foot will make you sound like Jaco then it will do it!

I do have a guitar cable that doesn't sound as clear and open as some others. It could be that it's approaching 15 years of use. I realized this one day when a buddy came over and plugged into my rig using his cable which appeared to be nothing special. We both could hear suddenly more bass and more crisp high end in the signal. We a/b'd back and forth and in the end could clearly hear the difference in the two cables. My cable doesnt appear defective, has no crackles or bad connections, but it sounds weak and muted compared to his. I though it was a pretty good cable until this happened.

For these symptoms to exist it would have to be seriously messed up, but that's not something necessarily visible.
