I just got a new GK BL 600, and lost the power cord somewhere between home and my bands studio.

The back of the amp says ~120v 60hz but the only power cord I have near by is from a computer that says 10A ~250v.

This is only the cord, not a power converter box on a cord.

Does the difference in wires matter?

That 10A is standard for the IEC C13-style cords (your typical computer/amplifier cord). If it matches the socket on your amp (i.e., a C14), then it should be ok. Radio Shack has a real heavy-duty replacement for about $8. Just say you want an "IEC" power cord.

Well I just got back from the studio and the amp is ok, but it has a slight buzz at high volume levels that comes and goes with the cooling fan. I think it might be a slight ground problem due to the cord mis-match. It is loud though. Our stuido has ceiling tiles, and you can hear them buzz, and now we are worrying about how to make that buzz stop lol.

well as long as you don't run vista you should be ok.

i've used computer cords for years on piece of gear without any issue. sure the thicker guage cord is probably better if you are running a powerful amp flat out but i've never had an issue.

I thought you meant a C13 connector:

Those are pretty much interchangeable. I'm delighted that the industry decided on a standard...at least for a lot of computer and sound gear. I swap power cords with C13 connectors freely and have never had any problem - as long as the connector fits, they work.

The PC power cord is just fine, I seriously doubt that your amp draws more than 10A. It'll really do if its a heavey duty cord.
