power jazz volume knob removal help

i have a 85 fender power jazz bass special that has the volume know that is loose. it also is crackling when i turn it. i am hoping if i tighten it up that will fix the crackling problem but doubt it

my problem in getting the original fender "f" knob off. i didnt wanna take a screw driver to it and try pry it off and breaking it before i asked here for advice. the top part of the knob did come off the top and it looks like i need a special tool but i am not sure. with the top off there is hole in the middle and a smaller hole off to one side.

also if it is a volume pot that needs replaced what volume pot should i get??
