Power supply

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, it's not effects but it sort of is in a round about way (but not). Anyway, I need a bit of help with a power supply. I've had a dc brick but I want to get a voodoo lab supply; I played a gig recently a be had a bit of hiss which I thought getting a voodoo lab might help avoid. I sold the brick so I need a power supply anyway.


I've got a boss tu3 tuner going into a rusty box, which in turn goes into a boss ls2 splitter with an iron pig in the loop. So the rusty box had its own 24v supply. To power the other 3, would the voodoo lab iso5 be the bet tool for the job?

I won't be buying any more pedals, this is my permanent set up so is the Iso 5 the way forward?

Yeah. I have two. I bought one from Tronographic and one from another TB'er, both came with 30v power supplies that match. I know the manual says don't use with anything less then 30volts. I always thought that's why the sound and headroom is so awesome. I love mine!

I emailed the Tronographic guys a while back and they said it will work fine down to around 18 volts. I have tried both 18 and 24 volts from my CIOKs power supply and the difference in headroom was very noticeable to my ears, so I usually still use the stock power supply. With lower voltage the Rusty loses some of that really open punch, kinda like alot of more "run of the mill" OD pedals I've tried. Any isolated supply with two 12 volt outputs can give you 24 volts using a voltage doubler cable (you will also need a polarity reversal adaptor to fit the Rusty), so in theory you could power your Rusty with most of the available isolated power supplies if it sounds good to you at a lower voltage.

Permanent as in that's it - no more sodding around buying bits and pieces ;) the rusty is all I need really but the iron pig gives me a bit more dirt when needed. The tuner is standard and I use the ls2 to keep my rusty signal intact when adding a bit from the pig.

And that's a wrap - no more pedals. Now if we're talking basses and amps...

I think I'll still use the rusty power supply for the rusty box. But will the iso5 be suitable for the iron pig, ls2 and tu3?

All I understand is that is does 9v, I don't understand the current draw stuff

^^bang on. I've actually put te iron pig to one side now after having a week or two. I definitely notice a bit of low end loss on the lm308 setting.

The rusty box with the gain cranked just sounds plain dirty, but keeps all the guts of the low end.

My set up is tuner>rusty box>boss line selector (for pre set volume drops)

That's it - nothing else needed really.

If you still want a pedal to add a little extra dirt, I would recommend a Fuzzrocious Demon- I find mine works really well paired with the Rusty Box and is a good tonal complement to the Rusty's brighter mid tone, and no obvious low end loss as I have always heard from Rat-based pedals like the Iron Pig...
