I've got to call BS on this. Pawn shops don't often lose money on deals, and at this price, what are the odds of someone sitting around with a closet full of vintage Fenders who would let them go for $20-50 a piece?
The managers just don't know squat about musical gear. The people pawning the stuff probably don't know what's the worth of their gear, and the manager don't know either. Therefore, if they give VERY little on the pawned gear, they only mark it up accordingly. I've also got at the same pawnshop a Roland Cube 100 Bass combo for $99 (worth about $400-500), and a Parker Fly USA made guitar in killer condition for $170 (worth about $ 800). The place is just VERY uneducated on musical gear, all to my benefit.:
Agreed on the BS. Last deal i got in a pawnshop was around '89 in boston $325.00 1974 factory fretless Rick 4003 with the G string missing and in need of the fingerboard to be rehabbed.
Since the late '90s pawnshops have online tools to price and date instruments.
Any deal like this would be based on the original pawner or seller to be completely ignorant of what they own, as well as the pawn broker being completely ignorant, three times running.

While I also find this hard to believe in this day and age it might be so. I cant for the life of me think in Texas where music is huge that they are so stupid about musical instruments...I'ts a Fender! and its and old one...BTW ..great score!

I have never even seen a bass worth buying in a pawn shop here, let alone one that wasn't laughingly overpriced.

i scored my 1978 gibson RD artist for less than half of that.
seriously. i was in middle school and paid with loose change that wasn't even rolled.

Pawn shop scores still happen, only less frequently.
Earlier this year, I bought a Cordoba C7CE nylon string guitar, like new, for $70. New price is $600.
Granted, not the same level as the OP's score, but still a great buy.

Holy crapstick!!! Fantastic scores! You may want to just buy that pawn shop and wait for the instruments to keep rolling in. What if you missed a 1965 Jazz or a 1959 Les Paul because you weren't there at the right time? My brain hurts thinking about it.
