Poweramp advice...

My band's current amp rack has three Mackie FR-2500's loaded in it. We are looking to lighten our load-in so the question is, what would the collective recommend as a light weight replacement for the 2500's? The amps are 56lbs each and we're not getting any younger The amp rack has great casters on it but its a pain in the back getting it into and out of our trailer.

Need 750W @ 4ohms. I've been looking around at Crown and the Peavey IPR gear but an opinion with real world experience would be helpful.

I have been using the Carvin DCM****L series for about 2 years and have no complaints. There really isn't much to say about power amps other than they haven't broken down.

The Carvins are excellent bang per buck. Also the QSC lightweight amps are among the best choices out there.

^ Yep Carvin. I love their amps.I've run mine bridged @ 1000 watts 4 ohm load, in stereo @ 2ohm load all day out doors summer time, no over heating, no problems what so ever. They absolutely rock. IMHO

Is it worth looking for an amp that has a DSP? Specifically for limiter and X-over or is better to use outboard boxes for these functions?

I have a Crown XTI 2000 that's being used for bass right now and the functionality it its band manager software looks pretty cool. Perhaps three of the XTI-2's would be a good way to go.

I just saw that QSC is doing something similar but I haven't taken a look at them yet.

QSC PLX 2502 or 3102.
22 lbs each.

Use clip limiter and 30hz filter on amp.
Everything else done by outboard gear.

100hz crossover built in. I only use that as backup if crossover failed or if using the amp for vocal monitors where low end not needed.
