Powering HX Stomp XL

DC-7 with doubler cable under my larger board. DC-4 with doubler under my small board. The Cioks/Eventide stuff just works. Assuming you order a model with the 9v 660,a outlets. It was a sad day to sell off my old dc-10. That thing did yeoman's service until I need the bigger power.

I also have a Sweetfoot mini-micro which powers an HX plus 2 pedals on a daisy chain cable which for the dough is great. Previoisly mentioned, maybe he doesn't ship outside of North America.

My Eventide Max (Cioks DC-7) with the current doubler cable works great. Just takes two outputs.

Well, I'm considering making the digital plunge myself. The reviews just sound too good to ignore. I'm kind of tired of carrying around my ginormous pedalboard, and I've only had to do it three times. I'm getting too old for this.

But that was one of my questions. A Cioks doubler will work? Because the Line 6 says it takes 3A of power, and doubling the 9v output only gives you like 1.2A. But that must be sufficient, I take it.

Cioks DC7 will give you the most power and flexibility in the smallest footprint. Easy to get ahold of here and a proven combo with the Helix line.

On a side note, I watched the part of that video where he powered up the Stomp with the adapter cable. Impressive. But what was most impressive to me was the fact that the guy pronounced the name of his company "Choks", not "Cy-oks", as I have been pronouncing it for a while now.

One note for the group - curious if anyone else has had this experience: I power an Hx stomp xl with a Cioks and a doubler and it works great UNTIL I need to upgrade. Then it craps out. I solved the issue by adding another doubler (to make a tripler?) and the issue went away.

I DO NOT have the same issue with my Hx stomp (non xl).

Good to know for the Stomp XL owners. As demonstrated in the Cioks video I've posted before, the current drawn by the unit varies based on the functions that are in use. So either the update process needs a lot of power because it uses all the available processing power to speed up the process. Or it's a failsafe mechanism that checks if there is ample power to sustain the update process - a cutoff during the update could result in corrupted firmware and render the device useless.

The latter seems the more likely explanation to me. I can't imagine the update (basically writing to memory) taking much more power than regular usage. MacBooks have a similar thing if I recall correctly in that it gives a warning if you are starting an update while battery powered.

On a side note, I was all excited to get the new downsized board all wired up. I already have the current doubler cable for the Cioks DC7, but I could not for the life of me get the barrel end to plug into the Stomp. I tried other cables from the DC7 as well, and they wouldn't fit. Well, a little more research confirmed that you also need one of these to work with the DC7, in addition to the current doubler cable:
