Powering mains with bass head?

Sure you CAN, but it probably won't sound as good as using the proper tool for the job.

Bass amps are not generally voiced all that flat, and some are anything but flat.

It's not the power amps, but the preamps that are responsible for this. With some amps, you can use the master effects loop insert point as a power amp input, bypassing the preamp.
