After looking through Silky Smooths studio build I was so impressed with the outcome on that project. Well I figured that most of us don't have that level of time and investment and thought I would share a few pix of my practice space. This is a mix of new and used gear that is working out pretty well for me and assembling it over time hasn't broken the bank. When I started part time gigging again my gear outgrew my home office space and I purchased a prefab Amish built 12' x 16' shed and ran power to it. Over the years I've added insulation and paneling, heat and a small AC unit for year round use (plus climate control for my gear). For my console I found a used armoire style office desk cabinet with doors on CL and it's been very functional..
I added a second keyboard drawer and it expands nicely to provide access to my control surface and mouse and keyboard.
The cabinet if remember correctly might have been free. It's not fine furniture by any means but allows me to maintain open space in the room. My board is a Behringer Xenix X2222USB with direct lines out from the 8 XLR channel inserts to my Tascam 16x08 USB interface line inputs so we can record directly to the DAW from the PA. I have a refurb DELL PC with 32MB of RAM and an old 20" monitor. At some point I'll need to do some re-engineering to support a larger monitor. But this works OK for now.
Being a small space about four of us max out the space, three works pretty well (with amps and instruments). I've found a few deals on used gear and have picked up an e-Drum set and a Roland keyboard with an older Yamaha synth unit. Saves the guys from having to haul gear for small practice sessions and doesn't take up much room. In the console I've got an older Zoom RT-223 drum machine with a footswitch which comes in handy. Once I figure out how to use the footswitch with my control surface I may switch to the DAW for drums.
With COVID it's been a saving grace for me. I'll do rough mixes either using the PA or headphones then do the final mix in my home office with monitors. Most of what I do is for fun and to learn how to record and mix. Anyway thought I would share.
