Those who are fortunate enough to have a set of Precision Flats with mismatched silks should hang on to them as long as they can. They will have great value in the post-COVID world as a reminder of how the pandemic changed our lives forever.

I’ve explained this a couple of times, but the gist is that there are a small amount of companies that make the thread we can use, many of which have either gone out of business or stopped selling to smaller customers (thanks, Covid), a very small selection of stock available colors, and all the Covid shenanigans.
The packaging people do the best they can in making sure any silk color mismatch IS minimal, but especially right now, it’s sadly unavoidable.
Do Precision Flats have silks at the bridge?
Nope.
That’s strange. The ones that are on a P bass that I bought secondhand do have silk at both ends. Did they used to have them there and then change?

Yeah, they’re on a Road Worn P with a custom wound pickup that I bought about a year ago. From how he described it, I thought he had just put them on in the last year before he sold it to me. Maybe he had them sitting around from 2012?
They only come in three different winding lengths - 38" (long plus), 35.5" (medium) and 32.75" (short).
The good news is they're pliable enough to wrap around the tuner post with no issues.

~Is the 35.5" set too short for a standard top load Pbass?

IMO you'd be cutting it close for the taper crossing the nut.
A measuring tape will be your best friend on this.
We were just discussing something similar in the Medium Scale Bass Club thread.
It was whether a 32.75" short scale GHS set would fit a medium scale top loading P-bass.
One poster said that they would fit, but I measured such a bass which I own, and disagreed.

yes, it’s too short.
This will have to do with the feel of the string, not the tone. A little thicker, a little stiffer. Remember, you're talking about 1/100th of an inch and 5/1000s of an inch difference. The magnets won't notice it.Will thicker gauge D and G strings, say .055 instead of .045 and .070 instead of .065, have a thicker/fuller tone? Or quite the contrary, as some people say, a higher tension string, tuned to the same pitch, will in fact sound "treblier" / will have more overtones than a lighter one due to the added tension?
These are my flats of choice for solid old school tone. I have them on P, PJ and J basses. Huge and solid consistent tone.
