Praise Report: GHS Precision Flats

Having played the GHS Precision Flats on my L-2500 for a couple of months, I’ve a mixed opinion. I think the E-A-D-G strings sound pretty good on it, but the problem is the B string. Don’t know if it’s bad string or that’s just what it sounds like, but all I get out of it is a percussive thud with no note definition.

I haven’t yet decided if I should contact GHS and try to get a replacement string. I do prefer the stiff feel of the Chromes so I may just go back to the Chromes.

Mix and match. Why not just replace the B-string with one that works for you?

In the process of putting P Flats back on all my basses (6). I use the light set all around, 95-45. I had them on, went through a rounds phase, and now am coming back. Should have never left. I love the consistency in tone I get from the light set, plus the short and medium scale sets only come in the 95-45 so I stick with it. I have the P Flats on:
  • P bass
  • J bass
  • Stingray
  • Fretless bass with mudbuckers
  • Bronco
  • Beatle bass

They are my all-time favorite string/brand.

Same 45-105 set 8 years strong on my main gigging bass... still has incredible tone, tension and stay perfectly in tune. Highly recommended:)

You need the B string which absolutely has great clarity ,solid tone and well string to string tone balance, just forget the GHS flat, their B and E just sound like Shxt.

For growl tone, try EB2816 ; EB2810 for dryer and woody voice (not classic thump thing).

I just load a fresh set of EB 2816 on my Yamaha TRBX504 for BEAD tune. Since this bass has bright tone on D/G side and deeper tone on E/A side naturally , the EB cobalt flat 65-130 able to make this bass sound better balance than factory EADG tune. Especially the Duck-Queck like sound from G string which i truly hate !

The 130B string also set intonation well, clear and useful solid B voice until fret 10th.

On my previous Sterling SUB Ray5 , the B string voice shine until fret 13th !

Even the GHS Precision flat E are Sxck , but the ADG from 3025 set sound nice with the mix with Ernieball Cobalt flat E string on my previous Ray4.

To OP, i suggest email GHS and ask them to give you 10 replacement B string.

Just loaded up my first set of GHS Precision flats, got the custom set C3050. First impression is they feel comfortable, similar to the LaBella 760FLs they replaced, very bright still of course being brand new but authoritative sounding and easy to play. Looking forward to hearing how they sound as they break in a bit over the next few weeks. Like several have noticed the silk dye is not consistent with the A-string silk looking brighter than the rest, but the strings themselves are nicely balanced string to string both in feel and output. If the first impression holds up I’m expecting to like these every bit as much as the LaBellas, maybe more given the feel. We’ll see. For now I’m quite happy with the strings.

Silk color consistency is surely of relatively minor importance but still, why can't GHS QC this? That said, I'm considering ordering a 3050M set myself.

I’ve explained this a couple of times, but the gist is that there are a small amount of companies that make the thread we can use, many of which have either gone out of business or stopped selling to smaller customers (thanks, Covid), a very small selection of stock available colors, and all the Covid shenanigans.

The packaging people do the best they can in making sure any silk color mismatch IS minimal, but especially right now, it’s sadly unavoidable.

Grateful GHS uses silks! Strings without silks look unfinished to my eye.
