Wow....this is so humbling and nice. I want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and good vibes. From what I've been told I've shocked most of the staff at the hospitals I've been at because of my recovery. I will be discharged from John Muir in Walnut Creek this Thursday.
I've had some short term memory loss, am very weak but able to walk around, go to the bathroom, and some other daily functions which is good. My attitude is kinda between pissed and OK but overall positive.
For those wondering about how this happened the doctors have no idea. On August 23 I was on a rowing machine working out feeling good then felt a little twinge or pull in my ribcage area. I didn't push it and called it a day. Went to the store, went home and after about 2 hours I was on the floor in my bathroom with my wife calling 911. They sent me to vacavallley hospital where for some reason it took them hours to make a decision to open me up. At times laying in the ER my blood pressure was as low as 40/20...not good. They removed my spleen at Vacavalley but also could not stop the bleeding. They decided to helicopter me to UC Davis in Sacramento. From what I've been told I went into cardiac arrest on the helicopter and had no pulse when we arrived at UC Davis. They performed CPR for 1/2 hour, pumped close to 70 units of blood because I was bleeding out everywhere (eyes, nose, ears, etc....) my body temperature was around 90F which was too low to perform surgery. Basically they told my wife it wasn't likely that I would make it.
One surgeon told my wife she was not sure what she could do but she'll open me up and take a look. Well...I had several tears still in the abdominal area that she was able to find and suture up.
I was in ICU for not quite a week. Then to a trauma nursing floor for about 2 weeks then my insurance wanted me transferred to an "in-network" hospital which is when I was ambulanced to John Muir. My recovery has been remarkable according to all hospital personnel. I lost most of my muscle mass and it will be a slow recovery to rebuild. I have a large vertical wound (partially healing) on my stomach (approx 12"). I will require in-home nursing & PT for about 2 weeks, then moving to outpatient. Not sure how long it will take or when I'll be cleared to drive but it seems like a few months at least.
I probably won't be on TB as much as i'd like but I did want to say thanks for the positive vibes and look forward to recovering as much as I can.

OK, let me get this straight...you felt a "twinge"..and it turned out that you ruptured your spleen and your abdominal wall in "several" spots.
