pre-amp and power amp?

I am needing a more versatile set-up and thinking this maybe a way for me to go.

I need to keep the whole thing under the 800 dollar mark and I need to be able to play blues, jam band, and jazz with it.

I have an avatar 210 with Deltas in and may add a 115 cab at some point.

Anyhow, tell me what you guys are using what should I check out on both the pre-amp and the power amp?

I love your RBI settings! I bought a nice used one the other day and my first impression (when set as Tech21 recommends with the blend at 100% SansAmp) was YUK!!! However, I found that dialing the blend way down as you have it I like it a lot more. Adding a little SansAmp spice to the direct tone is just the ticket!!!

Yup, too much blend is a very bad thing IMHO.

Personally, I think it is the primary reason for people disliking Sansamp bass products. They think they HAVE to run the blend at 100%. When that happens hearing yourself becomes a problem.

I did that for a long time with an Eden Nav/WT1000 and it sounded great... bt it was heavy. I think there are enough heads on the market that give the versatility to cover all styles well and weigh a lot less. My ShuttleMax12.0 does it all in a 1200 watt 7 pound package. My back likes me more now.

I've had excellent results using my Sansamp BDDI in my effects loop (which is set at about 50%) on a high blend setting. It is waaay nicer this way.

I run a Sansamp RBI with a big 'ol Crown CE1000. Although a newer, smaller, lighter power amp (like lowtonejoe's QSC) would be just dandy, too. My Schroeder 4 ohm 1212 is plenty loud and plenty low for nearly any club gig. I add a Carvin 4 ohm 1x15 for outdoor gigs. I would recommend you buy a power amp that will run 2 channels of 2 ohms and 1 channel (bridged) at 4 ohms. Then you will never worry about what cabs you can use.

I've got an Ampeg BSP pre that I sort of found by chance.

There are two channels on it with their own eq, effects loop, and volume control so they can be blended or run separately off a footswitch. I don't need the sizzle in the o/d channel, but I can put something like my Q-Tron into its effects loop (with the gain on that channel toned down) and balance that volume level with my clean channel for better sound on demand. DI's for each channel, too.

These pre's aren't everywhere, but I like this one for its nice basic tone along with its flexibility - not just because "it's an Ampeg" if you know what I mean.

Plenty of affordable, decent power amps out there, but the lighter weight class D amps typically cost more. I've got a hefty one that can run more power than I need right now (1,400 watts at 4 ohms) and I only use one channel without straining anything. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably look hard for a pre that does what I like and then shop for the power. Hearing is believing.

Why would you need two channels at 2 ohms? Unless you plan on running 4 x 4 ohm cabinets.

I'll throw this in the pile.

This is definately not an 800 dollar rig but I found my QSC PLX2 1804 for $500.00 and it is sweet. It has limitted functions but it will put oput more juice than a Crest CA-9 in stereo mode and it weighs 13 pounds.

I have been happy as a freakin clam ever since I got my grubby hands on this Poweramp. A nice used Preamp would get you there.

Off Topic I have been seriously checking out the Genz Benz Shuttle Max 12. It has some serious Tone Shaping, Flexability, and weighs 6.75 pounds. Into two 4 ohm Cabs it is 1200 watts.
