Pre Gig Band rituals

Strech, do some jumping jacks or run around a bit, have a wee toke with the rhythm guitarist. Might have one beer during the second set. I am like a lot of you in that I always wash the hands pre-show. But I also like to swipe my fingertips across my forehead or beside nose for a little oil. I like the feel of a little finger-grease on my flatwounds.

No real pre-show routine except making extra-sure my rig is ready to go. I've had enough panic moments when you get up on stage to start your set and for some reason nothing is coming out of your amp. Now my bass sits on a stand with the volume down and the amp speaker off. I walk up, pick up the bass, turn on the speaker, crank up the volume knob on the bass, and I'm ready to rock.

I guess between set-up and playing I do whatever I think I need to based on my mood or nerves--if I'm nervous about the show I'll try to mingle more in the crowd. Otherwise it's just time to kick back and not drink too much.
