"pre-worked neck"?

This is a plea for clarification. I ordinarily only deal with acoustic, violin-family instruments, up to and including double bass. My son usually builds acoustic guitars, with the occasional electric thrown in.

A customer has asked him about having an electric bass built with a "pre-worked neck". What is that referring to? He builds his necks (and everything else, pretty much) from scratch...what does "pre-worked" mean?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, all.

I re-read the e-mail from which the term came, and, in context, I think Jools has it right. But to be sure, we will ask the customer. I just didn't like to ask if it turned out this was some industry-standard term we had just never heard.

Thanks again.
