preamp help?

I'm looking into changing up my rig and am considering a preamp with separate power amp option does anyone have any suggestions that I won't have to sell my house to buy? Thanks for any and all help.

I personally like the old Demeter 201 pre's which can be found for 3 or 400 . Alembic or the Ampeg Classic SVPCL all can be had used for around the same , give or take .

Tech 21 Sansamp RBI can be had for a lot less than that. Great tone, very versatile, and no tubes to worry about.

What kind of music are you playing?

Yamaha PB-1 pre's are great values.
BBE 383 is a good one you can find for cheap.
Tech 21 RPM is nice.

If I were to buy another Demeter it would be a 2nd-hand HBP-1 which is a bit priceyer (sp?) than the VTBP-201S, but worth every penny.

Art Pro Channel, Crown XLS 1000 - light and powerful. The Art is not bass amp per design, but it works great, has a versatile EQ and a compressor. Art $180 and Crown for $300.

Having just got rid of my Tech21 pre-amp, i can say IMO that they dont come close to the Demeter. Well worth the extra $200
