Preamp with a powered cabinet

My typical bass setup for practice and composition in my studio is bass into a tube mic mixer then into a mixer channel to a Yamaha DRX 15. It sounds good, if a little thinner than a proper bass rig. Less pleasing harmonics. Very clear though.

For electrics, I've been using a SansAmp BDI (+comp and Helix) into a QSC K12.2 for a bit and it sounds great and is reasonably portable. I leave the QSC flat and what I'm hearing is exactly what is sent to FOH. I use an AliX into the QSC for upright. I can put the QSC up on a speaker stand to get out of the way the upright which cuts down on feedback quite a bit too. Being able to use the QSC as a floor monitor is also great. Or you can point it out if you have poor PA support. The Aguilar rig has stayed home since I switched to this. YMMV.

Well I am loving the Ampeg SGT DI and pre-ordered the Tech 21 XB Driver … and just as I started thinking about a powered cab a super affordable Blackstar U250ACT popped up on Reverb (and wuz snagged!) Taking a gamble on the sound of that powered 115 (never auditioned one) but assume it’ll do the job easier than continuing to reach around for effect return inputs.

How did it work out with using a preamp pedal into the U250ACT powered cabinet, thinking of doing the same with my (currently inbound) Punchline, thanks...!
