Looking for an external preamp for a 62 jazz bass.
Any suggestions ?
Come on guys... A small mixer and a SansAmp when he wants to keep the vintage sound of his jazz bass...
How simple/complicated may it be? SWR Marcus Miller Preamp (veeeery versatile) or Glockenklang Bass Art Classic Preamp?
I want to keep the vintage sound of my jazz. Clean, no colored sound..
Clean and uncoloured sound... what is wrong with the SWR or the Glockenklang? I think a mixer and the Tech21 are unusable as a recommendation. There are almost no good input pre's in small mixers and uncoloured with Tech21 in one sentence...I think you missed this part.

In a live performance setting, a decent small mixer will do fine. You don't need 110 dB S/N (signal-to-noise ratio) onstage when the S/N of the rest of the system is 60-70 dB and the S/N directly from the bass is around 45 dB.Distortion and response are similarly degraded from studio settings.
You gotta love talkbass! We are talking about a 62 J-Bass! Don´t do this with such a fine instrument. That would be like putting the cheapest tires on a Porsche.
