I am sitting here with my "new to me" factory original, 1971 Fender Precision Bass with a stock "A" neck on it.
An A neck, as listed on Fender's website, is listed as being 1 1/2" width.
I think some may say they are 1 7/16 wide or 1 9/16 ???.

And my neck really looks like 1 and 17/32. ! I have looked at it a lot. Also could be failing eyesite. haha

Although they are not real common you could always order any width they made as a stock option. If I'm not mistaken the A option is the hardest to find as these would have been ordered by persons of smaller stature whether they were male, female or a youth.
I happen to just like them better and I am 6' tall but don't have large hands. I started on a bass just like I have now and can't believe I sold my original P 40 yrs ago. Now things have come full circle.
I also just finished a rebuild of a 1962 P-Bass and I used a fender Lic. neck. I was not an expensive one, less than $150 as I recall. Of course I had to supply the Nut and finish work. It came out stunning with a vintage tint finish, and it plays great.

My '78 Precision has the optional A neck. The original owner was not short, female, or small handed, either. He ordered it like this, because he just liked the neck. But, yeah, I suppose it would appeal to those people. I bought it from him because 1) He needed the money to restore a lefty '58 P he found in a London pawn shop; 2) the neck is fairly similar to the bass I learned to play on; and 3) I just wanted it...
So.. RTrafton; yes, Fender did make P-Bass' with Jazz width necks. Yes, they still do, if you know what to look for. Yes, it's a simple swap if it's Fender-to-Fender. If other brands or aftermarket parts get involved, it can work, or it can get ugly. Aftermarket authorized necks, made to Fender specs - like Warmoth or Mighty Mite - should work just fine. Good luck with whichever choice you make; but, you can't have mine...

The body was new and the neck was second hand yes (2016) ... in that period they had a lot of different Fender USA bass necks ... now they're full of bodies but there's a scarcity of necks ... the two pieces mated perfectly to such an extent that the bass has only been set up by me but it's very playable

My own signature.... Fender CAR USA body, Custom Shop '63 pickup, Geddy Lee Sig Jazz neck (MIM) with USA tuners, binding and a GraphTech Black Tusq nut. Low action, Rotosound flatwounds. ObsidianWire electronics with treble bleed. I play mostly with a pick. It has a killer sound! Don't need another bass. Plug it in on my Ashdown RM 500-combo and the guitar guys with their tube amps ask me polite to turn down the volume.... then you know you have the right gear!

I don't know if I posted in this thread or not (no time to look) but my main bass for 20 years was a CAR 68 Precision with a 66 Jazz neck, I stupidly sold it somewhere in the mid 90'd before the junky looking Fender was the craze so I got next to nothing for it, it was very beat looking, I played the hell out of that bass. was a nitro finish.

My 2006 Squier Vintage Modified '70's Precision Bass with the neck from my 2015 Squier Vintage Modified '70's Jazz Bass (with upgraded pickup and electronics; did the swap a few months ago just for the hell of it; glad I did because I love the thump of a P-Bass, but also love the feel of a Jazz Bass neck).
