Precision bass with the classic unsplit coil

What bass brands carry it besides Fender and what's the difference between it and the more common split-coil?

I know I definately like the sound of a fretless precision better than a fretless jazz and I'm trying to figure out which P-pickup would work better for me.

I hear the single coil P PUP as being wider range than the split-coil ones, with more pronounced bass and more highs, and the attack is different, though I couldn't describe how. Amazing pickups, but missing some of the particular low-mid grunt of the split coil.

I think this bass is going to go on my Christmas list.

Have you tried a bass like this? The sound is very different than a traditional "P" bass, and of course there's single coil 60 cycle hum there. The only thing that sounds like it IME is a Darkstar pickup. I think it sounds wonderful, I absolutely loved the tone of a Fender Sting bass I tried.

It's a curious model for a low-cost knock-off shop like Turser. I would think that most of the clientelle for a bass like this would be experienced bassists looking for just that tone.

I'll bet it would absolutely SING with a fretless neck.

My single-coil P is the Thump King, with a tight attack and not much sustain, more bottom end and less mids than my split-coils.

I love the single-coil, but the band wants me to play the split.

I'm not sure about that - the single coil pickup is great for a driving rock style sound, but when you try to use it for articulate stuff, it gets kinda muddy. For straight ahead rock grooving though, it's just perfect!!
