I'm looking at adding a bridge cover on my Precision bass, are there any templates or measurements available so I can get it right first time.

Precision bridge cover

You can eyball it. The holes are located almost in the middle of the bridge.
Just lay the cover on the bass and have a look that it's centered to the bridge. Then mark where you would drill and take it off again checking that it's middled to all sides, make corrections if necessary and then go for it. I always put them on like this and it always worked out.
Not a big deal at all.

Put some masking tape over where you're going to drill the holes. It will prevent the finish from cracking.
+1 on that, and put a piece of tape on the drill bit at the depth that you want to drill into the body if you don't have a drill press.

Actually - besides the depth stop with the tape on the drill itself, add a little to the area where the cover is going since the holes in the cover will scratch the surface you put it on.
Adjusting the cover and sliding it around until it's where you want it will make a lot of nasty scratches on the bass.
As far as cracking the surface - actually pulling the tape off after drilling is more dangerous.
If you spider-craze the hole a bit - and that's not very likely - then the tape will rip the pieces out.
To minimize that - use the painter's blue, low adhesion tape. It'll help.

My 62P bridge is 43mm front to back, the cover holes are 24mm from the back face.
I took my bridge and pickup covers and thumb rest off my P when I bought it back in about 1969 and they have never been back on, but each to their own.

If I can get a template or drawiwing I think I'll try it. There have been a few pictures of black precisions with black scratchplates,with chrome covers and it looked good.
OK, I just took a measurement from my '76 P, and from center to center, the cover screws are 14mm closer to the neck than the bridge mounting screws... The cover screws are approx. 14.5mm outboard from the outer most bridge mounting screws, center to center... I took those measurements from this bass, which should get you to where you want to be:
