Precision- Hway 1 or RW?

Hi all, Am wanting to pick up a Precision & am considering these two basses.
Either a Highway one Precision or
a Road Worn Precision

I'd be very appreciative if ppl could express their views on each. I realize the RW is a MIM & the Hway 1 is a MIA. Just to add- the Hway 1 is a Sunburst & the RW a Fiesta Red. I'm partail to Sunburst, but have heard good things re the RW..... & many good things re the Hway 1's also....

So PLEASE help me decide,,, Oh & btw I'm in Tasmania Australia & HAVE to grab whichever one untried But I'm prepared to do this, & with only 2 muso stores in my town sadly I HAVE to do it this way.
Any & all opinions appreciated.

I have owned a highway 1 and it was a great bass for the money. In fact, looking at the prices of the roadworn series the choice for me would be highway all the way.

Close call. They're both decent. Personally, I own a HW1 P and would not trade it for a RW.

Thanks so far. +1 re the $$$ comparisons. I'm only consideringthe RW coz I can get a 2nd hand one for near the price of a new HW1. Keep the views coming please.

I love my 2008 Highway One Jazz and this is exactly what I plan to do - make it "road-worn" the natural way!

Thanks again. Are the elecs/pups etc any better on the HW1 than RW? Same?? I DO like the matte finish on the new HW1's

I really like the finish on the HW1, and personally not all that keen on relicing...

But, as a random musing and considering the strength of the Australian dollar at the moment check out how much cheaper it is to buy basses in the US at the moment, comparing Invalid Link Removed and guitar center US (converted into AUD http://xe.com/)

Roadworn P - $2250 AUD from basscentre, $1,337.13 AUD from guitarcenter US
Highway 1 P - $1425 AUD basscentre, $835.884 AUD guitarcenter
American Standard P - $2250 basscentre, $1,449.53 guitarcenter
Vintage '62 P - $4199 basscentre, $1,672.86 guitarcenter

The savings you'd make for some of these could buy a return flight to the US. I'm going over there in a few weeks and I almost feel obligated to spend some money...

Yeah I see the difference. But the two I've got an eye on are not much more than the US price anyway- I think the HW1 is on special & I get a further 20% off aas I'm a reg. customer & a local working muso & the RW is a 2nd hand model........ AND..... I've had BAD experience in getting a bass shipped over before & aint keen to go thru that again...

I have an 08 Sunburst H1 J, removed the pick guard and I LOVE it. It's wearing naturally and uniquely and has cool character because of it. Plays and sounds awesome too. Get an H1.

+1 Honest wear looks cool. buying a bass made to look worn is kinda lame. easy to tell the difference.

I got an 08 HW1 P bass, at the Same time I had an 08 american deluxe P. I still own the highway one. The american deluxe was ebayed. HW1's wear in very well. The music store I work at has a RW P. i wouldnt sell my highway one for it any day.

If the playability is the same on both then i'd take the road worn, the meaning behind those i think is that you should have fun with it!
It would certainly motivate anyone to play and have fun with a road worn, although the hwy1 aren't bad either.

To the OP - If the RW is used, does that mean you might be able to try it out?

I think you need to play them both. The HW1 has a 1 5/8" B shaped neck, and the RW has a 1 3/4" C shape. I believe the HW1 has larger frets as well. Those things could make one of them a deal breaker.

I would honestly get the Road Worn. My RW P bass is one of the best Precisions I've ever played, and I've tried a ton. Plus, it's lightweight at 7.6 Lbs.
