Precision pickup choice

Hello everyone,
I know there is many threads about P pickups but in my case I don't really find the right answer.

I acquired recently a Fender Precision Deluxe Special passive (older model), PJ configuration, alder body/rosewood fretboard.

The J pickup is really good, excellent sound and output.
I want to change the P pickups 'cause it lacks a bit of bass... but the sound is good too, growly with good clarity, clear high mids and not thin highs. Good low mid thump too.
I just want the same pickup but with "more bass", and a bit more output/balls. A good clarity pickup, especially in the low/high mids, with the classical P Bass sound

I have the Seymour Duncan SPB1 in another P bass and want something different (i found the SPB1 is perfect with a maple fingerboard) but lacks a bit in the high mids register, and i want a pickup with the same sound but with more high mids, more "fuller" sounding.

So what pickup? Fender Original 62? others?

I recently went through that somewhat same search, the Fender 62 Pick-up is a good choice, I've installed a few, in some of my basses, but I've just ordered a Bill Lawrence P-46, and from what I've read it is suppose to be a all around good pick-up, but I haven't received it yet .... however there is a really good thread on it:http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f38/b...i-review-best-p-pickup-ive-ever-tried-528005/ best of all it's really not that expensive

I read many threads about the tone of the P-46 and the overall seems to be "hi-fi", closer to a modern/clean sound, and that's the opposite of what i search.
Let me know if there's a big difference between the Lawrence and the Fender please

Look into Delano pickups. After seeing this Funky Bass demo by Otis at 13th Street Guitars - YouTube I was sold. Granted he has a Delano Musicman pickup down by the bridge, that P pup model is designed to give both the P sound and some Stingray bite.

I will be modding my P with Delano's sometime this new year.

The Delano have not a "classic" P Bass sound, it's too modern for me, lacks of midrange/warmth...
It sounds great for sure, I already saw that vid and find the tone very interesting.

Fender '62 pickups are awesome. I have used them in many basses. So are Dimarzio Model P's.

That SPB-1 is not lacking in high mids... forget about the pickup, what you want is a swamp ash P.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what J pickup to mate with the Fender '62 pickup?

I'll be using an Aguilar OBP-3

In my ESP/Ltd Vintage 204 I went with the '62 p and a Seymour Duncan vintage jazz in the bridge position and this yields vintagey passive classic lowend goodness.

I'd like it to be a stacked jazz for the canceling. Anybody use the Seymour Duncan Classic Stack?

I use a SD vintage P (SPB-1) and Hot Stack (STK-J2) with good results in a Warmoth PJ (500k volume pots and Fender TBX tone).

From what I've heard, the Dimarzio Area J would be a good choice. It's not a stack, but it is hum cancelling. Many say it sounds real close to a single coil without the noise.
