Hello there,

Just out of curiosity i'm wondering if there's a list of fender precision models SPECIFICALLY with slimmer necks than the usual chunky ones that we all know and love.

i need a backup for taking on the road and i'd enjoy having the same P tone, with a faster neck! and no, i won't just put a jazz neck on it. ;)

I'm sure you'll get some good answers, but you could always put a jazz neck on a precision body.
posted that before i could edit it in. heheh.

Try the American Special series. I have one, and its profile front-to-back is very slim and comfortable (to me). The Nate Mendel sig has a thinner than normal neck, too, but it's thicker than the American Special.

thank you for that. i won't be using the mendel but the american special looks like a contender.

The recent seafoam green FSR Precision Specials (2012 Active Deluxe P&J & 2013 passive P&J) both have Jazz necks as standard. SoundHouse in Gloucester have the 2013 model in stock. I've played it and it's a pretty nice bass.

Basses by Status-Graphite, MusicMan & Enfield
Amplification by Genz-Benz & TC Electronic

MIM 50's p-Bass lacquer has a very slim (maple only)neck.

Those have a 1.75" nut. I'm holding one right now. Great bass but not a slim neck.

In the 70's they made P basses with an "A" neck which I guess was a jazz. But like others have said you could put a jazz neck on a P bass or buy one of the variants that has a J neck already on it. Duck Dunn Lakland being one of them.

cheers for your help.

i've got a black FSR P/J precision in my sights, and if that fails i'll probably get the american special. trading in a black SG faded (gonna miss it a bit) and some cash.

Hello,
making this thread alive again.
So here's my story:
After a long search (and sacrifices) I was able to purchase a great Pino Palladino Custom shop P bass.
Long story short at least in my ears this is the best P around hands down, great feel sounds massive... etc. I owned some P basses (78 maple neck, 83 Squier JV, etc...) and this bass (although I'm aware that those are completely different worlds) beats them by far.

Ok... I'm owning it for 2 months now and playing it daily for at least 2 hours. Sad story my hands are not so "big" (i.e. Pino, at least in the pictures, is a tall guy and has enormous hands :)).
The result is that I'm not "feeling" so well with the neck, it's just "too big for me". Said that I'm surely not giving up and will try it for at least some "more time".

Ok.. so... are there any "makers" (Fender and such...) that makes a P bass similar to Pino's (so with 60s specs) but with slimmer neck ?

Thank you very much
