Preparing Warmoth body

This may seem a bit of an obvious question to some so please don't flame me.

I've searched for hours and the problem is there is so much information available I can't find the answer to this specific question.

I've got a Warmoth Alder body which I intend to finish in Fiesta Red Nitro. It's a new body and as smooth as a baby's bum, so do I need to apply grain filler or sanding sealer before the primer coat?

Alder is generally pretty closed grained and I highly doubt you need to do a grain filler. You could do a sanding sealer, but if you are going fiesta red there's no need to do it. Just make sure you sand VERY well before the color coats. It just helps a ton in sanding/buffing in the end. You'll most likely be able to see any imperfections pretty well after the primer.

There's some good basic information about finishing on here.
I would suggest doing the sealer for sure prior to the primer. It won't add much time, it costs about 10 bucks or less from lowes, and it will only add a day or less to your total finishing time. That sounds worth the conceivable benefits (and at least outweighs the possible cons) for doing it.
Reranch has a wealth of info, and they don't just push their own products. They point you in the right direction for products you can find locally too.

Thanx for the link there

Thanks for the replies.

I looked at the Reranch site and it didn't answer my specific question. I'd read somewhere on another refinishing site that Alder didn't need a grain filler so that was my reason for asking.

Anyway I've primed directly onto the bare wood and it's come out pretty good. It's a little rough in places which I'll sand down before putting a colour on it but generally there's no grain showing and it's nice and smooth.
