Preserving pedal settings in a soft case

Don't know if someone's mentioned this already, but have you looked at the hawkeye knobs? They replace the standard knobs on your pedals, and can get bumped without changing settings. you have to lift them up to rotate:



alternatively, you can look at: loknob.com
Althought the loknobs have to be stuck to the pedal.

I used these little stickers from an unused cassette tape I found, though I'm sure you could find something else that'd be easier to find!! I know this doesn't solve the problem of knobs moving, but I'm a cheapskate

Have you experienced any problems with the Setting Saver 'hurting' the finish on any of your pedals?
StageTrix says in a FAQ that they've found that effect pedals by Electro-Harmonix can experience damage to the finish from their pens.

I've never had any problems at all - the ink has always come off cleanly. That said, I don't have any Electro-Harmonix pedals so I can't speak to those finishes.

Those trick knob s would be perfect. I haven't been gigging recently...work and my son make that impossible. My son is th reason I need them, though...he loves going downstairs and messing with all my pedals while I play. He's almost 18 months and has figured out that some knobs make big or crazy sounds, as do some buttons, and he tweaks everything.

I'm not paying that much for thrm, though...that's ridiculous. Cell phone pictures are almost as good.

I can't recommend the rubber washers enough. Find them in the plumbing aisle at the hardware store. Buy a few packs cause you'll want to use more than 1 per knob.

Can you post a picture or description of these? I'll probably run out and get some tomorrow, but I'm not sure what size/thickness/etc. to get.

Just counted it up. I have 39 knobs on my pedalboard. Wow.

Exactly what I do. Any knobs with set screws, I put rubber washers or o-rings under them and then screw the knobs back on so that the knobs only turn when you want to turn them, not when they're knocked by a cable or your case.

I realize it's gonna seem kind of abstract looking at them without a sense of scale, but each one of those is about the diameter of the outside nut/washer on your standard pedal knob.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous when you add them all up. I'm probably over 40, but my MarkBass Compressore has built in kick protection and my Pigtronix delay is all digital presets so the knob positions are meaningless, which is why I said I only needed 30 of the Hawkeyes.

I got a few packs of these, and they are a bit of a tight fit over the knob nut. So then when I push them on, they immediately roll off (up). I haven't found an easy way to hold them down while I push the knob back on... Any suggestions?

Push harder!

Like I said, if your knobs aren't the set screw type they don't work as well, but with some effort you should get them to stay in place.

Can't get it to work. I stretch them out, push them all the way down and hold with hands or needle nose pliers, used a piece of cardboard or plastic to hold it down while I push the knob on... Because they are round and a bit taller than the nut, they pop up and roll over the nut immediately no matter what I do... And I have to let go of them for an instant as I'm pushing the knob down, that's enough time for them to pop up.
They end up with one side rolled up between the knob and the shaft. It kind of seems to work, but I wish I could get them to lay flat.
I'm feeling fairly stupid and uncoordinated right now.

Are you sure this is the same size you used?

Sounds like you might have got too small a size. You shouldn't need to stretch them at all.

I couldn't tell you what size mine are as they're in my gig back at my practice space.

Yeah, I returned them and got #209 instead of #208, and so far they seem to be working great. 16 out of 39 knobs done so far. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I'm going over to Home Depot tomorrow to pick up some #209 O-Rings and give them a try.

This why all pedal makers need to take a page from Source Audio's book and start implementing presets for all their pedals.
