too late,

already got one from my local GC this evening.

killer stuff! cant get enough of it. was playing around with it, along side my Accugroove 1x12. very easy, hifi tone, with a highly flexible EQ. also, love how the saturation knob adds this woolly glow!

i'm still trying to figure out the compressor, tho. anyone wanna tell me how the "ratio" knob works? i'm such a noob.

also, while i understand that the "impedence" knob doesnt work with the instrument input, seems like the "saturation" knob works. and strangely, when i put my sadowsky into active mode, there doesnt seem to be much of a jump in the gain, tho the sound does definitely change. anyone know why?

and does anyone know if the XLR out works at the same time as the TRS / balanced / 1/4" out?

other than that, i'm lovin' the fully parametric EQ! i can literally shape my tone to EXACTLY what i want. what's better than that? cant wait to try the Eureka into my Acme B-4.

for $499, its a killer preamp for those with a supremely flexible hifi jones.

Well, let me be the one to ask the obvious questions. Joker, how does the Presonus compare soundwise to your Avalon U5 and the iAmp 800?

The original Envoice has a continuous control knob for the compressor, along with the tube sat knob. so you get quite a lot of control. the new Envoice MkII has the presets.

again, IMO, the Envoice sounds bigger and more dynamic. depends on what you are looking for, of course. The tube upgrade also helped in a noticeable way. also, I didn't really like the knobs on the Presonus that well - hard to see what levels they are set at.

But both are great products

Hey, Joker. Did you ever post a review of the Tri 112? I'd be interested to hear your "final" thoughts on it.

With regard to ratio, it is the amount of compression. The higher the ratio, the more you squash. Try 3:1 or 4:1 and go from there.

I a/b'ed the eureka, the brick, the avalon U5 and 737, yesterday, and I was disappointed with the eureka. It's clean, but rather dull next to the brick, or the U5. In that price range the U5 is the keeper. Granted, my ears lean towards "old school" analog fat, but it's what makes the booty shake...

I've used a buddies Eureka the last few days and had a good oppritunity to put it through some paces.

All I can say is.....WOW!

This unit is super clean, clear, and hi-fi. TB'er Rav bought the unit along with the digital card. This unit has the most uncolored, clear tone I have heard yet in a preamp. We pushed the pre with a Europwer 2500 amp into my Mesa PH1000 cab, as well as my SWR 6x10 and 2x15 cab's.

I a few of my basses, Ric 4003, 78 P bass, Fender P Lyte.....

This preamp allowed each bass to speak it's individual tone, most of which I had never heard uncolored to this extent.

I am very impressed with this unit...people in search of a clean, uncolored tone/pre owe it to themselves to give this pre a run for it's money.

yea, i too REALLY dug the tones from my Eureka. clean as a whistle thru my Acme B-4, and yet very versatile. while the U5 is just an amazing piece of gear, the EQ and compressor on the Eureka in its price range, put it over the top in my book.

FYI, i'm gonna do my own little shootout with the Eureka, U5, Epifani Quest II preamp for kicks. stay tuned...

I can't beleive you hinted at the B-word and the inquisition didn't drop by and attempt to take your testicles yet.

Must have slipped in under the radar so far I'm sure they are actively searching for posts to flame and will stop by any second now.

At any rate back on topic. If your looking for a hi-fi sounding preamp with zero coloration this unit is definitely for you. Everyone I've seen review the eureka that didn't like it basically didn't like it becuase it was too clean, too hi-fi, too solid state and didn't in any way even remotely sound like a tube.

This pre is clean, high headroom, with zero tone modification. When you plug in you hear your bass's true sound and not the preamp.

If you want to use a pre to make your bass sound growly, warm, soft, rumbly, or any of the other 9000 words people use to describe tube amplification side effects then this is NOT for you.

Hehehe...true.

All BS aside...this preamp totally blows me away. I don't hear any coloring of tone and it's ultra quiet. Rav and I had it completely maxed on volume/gain and it was super quiet.

I can't wait to get one of my own...I am very impressed...if you like warm ubber tube goodness, stay away...

If you like a completely clean, crisp, uncolored tone... you better try this one out!!

1) Riks web page doesn't list prices, in fact its about the most user unfriendly web page I've ever seen to buy gear from

2) The only price riks lists without waiting for a 24 hours e-mail turnaround is the list price of 699 and I think about anyone in the world could beat that.

3) GC guarantees low price. If you get a price quote from riks GC guarantees they will beat it.

That said GC's price before you talk them down is $499. Are you saying Riks sells them for 420? Considering the lowest price I've seen even on ebay for a new one is $499 I somehow doubt it.
