I am debating buying a P bass, want to know what is a good price on this thing.

Serial number is E3 + 5 digits, so I think that is 82-86. It has white pickups, rubber gripped steel knobs, and a strange bridge.

Second question, does that look original? I am not that familiar on 80's Fenders.

Ok so I think it is a Precision Elite from what I can gather, anybody know anything about that bridge? It doesn't look to be factory from what I see.

EDIT: I think the bridge is factory actually... fine point tuners. I also think I have a good ball park on this thing now, but if anybody wants to chime in it'd be appreciated.

That's an Elite I with fine tuning bridge intact. Lace Sensor pickups. TBX tone control. Stock knobs. Should have a neck screw plate with "elite" in cursive and beefy tuners with the Fender F. What I see in this one pic looks original. They had 2 styles of bridges - sides polished smooth on the '83s and pebble textured sides on the '84s. They're Fender's first real attempt at an upper tier bass. I have an Elite II, which has two sets of Lace P pickups. Fantastic 'secret' basses! Seen the I's typically go for $700-$1200, depending upon condition.

Well I bought it. I will do a NBD tomorrow.

I took a big leap though, the allan keys I had on hand didn't fit in the truss rod. I am hoping it is just one of those weird fender ball end keys and not a stripped truss rod grip.

I am off to jam out.

Although I am definitely torn, I HATE a humming bass, but this is my first vintage so I don't want to do any mods (yet)

I far prefer the one below. It's the "Deluxe" version of the bass the OP posted.

There's far, far more flexibility in tone on these below....... Remember, I mean no offense to your bass, at all.

I love the see-thru green on these models. Beautiful Basses. I remember my local mom & pop shop always had these back in the day.

Truss appears to be working! (knock on wood) The neck tilt looks to be working as well!

The thing has seen some use, but the frets are good. The fretboard finish is checking in places though. I have yet to give it a nice low setup and find out for sure.

It sounds pretty good through the Darkglass VMT, going to hook up the b3k once I get it setup.

None taken. I have been dying for an elite II since I first heard of them a few years ago. The trans green ones are killer looking, I have always been partial to sunburst though. Now they have the modern P with double P pickups which I am just as curious to try.

I figured this is the closest I will get to finding an elite II short of getting one off the internet.
