plenty, i've recorded at major studios in the US and Canada, worked with people with Gold records hung all over the walls. I had the same opinion as the OP that i needed to bring some fancy tube DI when i started out, when i got there the engineer always said the same thing "sure we can try it but we prefer if you use X here. We're used to it and work with it every day". Whether that was a Neve channel strip, API channel strip, some tube outboard preamp, or just a Radial JDI/ProDI, i have always done what they wanted, it's easiest and like they say, they are used to it, it's their house. i'm a hired gun, so i'm not particular about "doing my thing", i'm particular about doing the job and getting the check. Look up any big studios website, they have gear lists, you will see massive lists of uber-fancy preamps, direct boxes, compressors, etc. That's part of what makes it a studio, if they required everyone to bring their own gear you'd just be renting a room.
