Double Bass Problem with a Luthier (Roland/Emanuel Wilfer content)

probably soon my brother will go to his store. I write to him and I call wilfer many times and he does not deign to answer never, if it was that he has many instruments ahead, it would be understood, but he only lies again and again saying he will send the bass "next week" but I have many months that he does not even answer.

Lemur has been a distributor for Wilfer for many years. They are another voice of Wilfer experience. Their relationship appears to have been primarily positive over the years. Ex head luthier at Lemur, Jason Brown, has had good dealings with Roland Wilfer over the years. I have known Roland Wilfer to be good and fair, if stretched a little too thin and overworked at times.

at this moment we are 4 people with the same situation ... you can say whatever you want, but Wilfer is not fulfilling his business, I also have messages from Lemur saying that they have been without communication with Wilfer, I do not know if today keep being the same, it would not be strange ...

Guys!I am a buyer from Asia, it’s so sad that I saw this post right after I transferred money to Wilfer! I ordered 4 instruments, and he started not replying any email after he received the money!!
For whom having the same problems, please contact me. I can show all the email content! And we must gather together to solve this, whether go to his shop in person, or go to police! This is Fraud definitely! We should act, and stop him keep doing this bad thing!

Please go ahead and name him. I bet I know who it is already. There is a certain guy who orders from me from time to time, but never pays his bills until my wife, a lawyer, sends him a proper lawyer's letter. I have been too soft to ask him to pre-pay, but no more. PM me if you want my wife to send him a letter for you. She might ask for some money, but it might get things done:D
I am having the same non communication problems having paid for an instrument in full. Robobass I would really appreciate it if you wife might consider helping me with a letter?? Thanks. Kind regards

Just like Lemur there are others who have told me the same ...

and my problem is not solved at all.
why don't we work together to get this matter sorted out? I am about make a report to there Bavarian Police and we could share the cost of getting a good local lawyer to work with us?? If anyone who has failed to have an instrument delivered which was paid for if you send me the info I will put a case together ???

I am happy to work on this with you

I deeply regret to say that I am also a victim of the "Wilfer".
11 months ago I am waiting for my double bass ...

I have had several conversations with Roland Wilfer and Lukas Wilfer, where they tell me lies.
I even had to send a friend to his factory to corroborate that it was real, that it existed. They promised a delivery date and photos of my instrument, but I received nothing.

Now I am taking my case with a lawyer.
I am disappointed and I feel cheated, I have spent extra time and money in this whole process. I just hope nobody else does this happen.

If any of you have heard of your double basses, please tell me!
Thank you.

Whatever the reason this experience is most unfortunate. Has anyone thought to ask if there might be some kind of illness involved? Physical or mental? From the bits and pieces I've picked up over the course of this thread one or more of the victims has had a conversation with Roland Wilfer. Cognitive impairment might be lurking somewhere in this.

I've followed this thread since its inception because, for one, I have a Wilfer and it's just natural interest. I spoke to one of the Wilfers at a NAMM Show some years back. Maybe 10 or more years ago. I was walking the aisles and saw "my" bass at their booth. It was new of course, without 50 years of dings, scratches, oxidation on the tuning machines and the other stuff that happens over time. Neither of the two gentlemen in the booth seemed interested in talking to me abut my bass if I wasn't immediately interested in a new one.

Since this ordering, making and delivery problem has been going on for so long I'm quite surprised that someone hasn't stepped in to take the reins of this struggling bass maker. There's seems to been no plausible excuse expressed by anyone. I'd be interested to know if the Wilfer dealers are handling this performance issue the same way. I suspect I could buy any number of new Wilfers from Toni at Lemur. If I were to tell her I wanted a model she didn't have in stock, what then?

Roger,
If you order through a dealer then I think you should be OK. No retailers seem to have problems with him. I think Herr Wilfer has gotten into the habit of taking orders from individuals and finding that he can convince them to prepay in full. And? I don't know. Maybe he plans to make good on the deal at some point? Maybe he has no intention of doing so? I can't say. But I find his treatment towards me seems manipulative in retrospect. We will do no further business.
