Problem with single-post ads

Reading the faqs on the new forum software, it says classified ads will now consist of only a single post. Updates are made by the original poster editing that single post.

If I understand this correctly in the new system we lose the ability to see uncensored feedback about the ad. If someone wants to point out an inaccuracy or other problem in an ad, they have to do it by PM to the original poster, who could then choose to ignore it.

The loss of free & open comments removes a safeguard against both honest mistakes and deceptive practices while adding no positive value.

My first impression of this new comment-less classifieds is that it takes away any public discussion about a sale item.
I think the purpose is to eliminate buddy bumps and to keep the classifieds clean and streamlined for those who are too lazy to delete their older bumps.

Where's the value in that? If somebody wants to clutter up their sale thread by not deleting old bumps, they're not bothering anybody else, and I believe no one is bothered by buddy bumps either.

The loss of public discussion, however, is a biggie.

The problem I see with no replies, is that some sellers never check their messages to see if someone wants to buy their junk, and other sellers boxes are full and you have no way to inform them of this except to start a new thread and hope the seller lucks on to it.

On a couple other music forums I frequent the sellers ad can't be modified by anybody but an admin. It keeps people from changing descriptions after they have delivered stuff that wasn't honestly represented. Single posts keep these guys from being outed as well.

Very frustrating that this functionality was taken away. There was alot of learning and efficiency in being able to see other people's questions and the seller's responses - plus the responses to questions by others posting with their own valuable information. This feels alot like civil-servant attitude - who cares if they liked it and overall it provided huge benefit to the community. If they don't like our changes then they can go elsewhere. Really is too bad.
