Problem with Super Bright strings and my 08 MIJ Geddy Lee J

I normally use DR Fat Beams but also like Dunlop Superbrights and they are a little cheaper. I can get a two back for $34.
I put these on on my Geddy Lee Jazz. I'm using the Stainless version 40-100. So I always cut my strings to 3 Pegs lengths. Been doing this for 20 years. Most sets I dont even cut the D and G strings. So the G string on the super brights have a few inches of the core string exposed. I cut the core right before where it's wrapped and crimp it.
Now the problem here is that there isn't enough get a good wrap on around the tuner post. So the string just slips off when I tune it.
I grabbed the G out of my second set and what I did here was cut a couple inches off the exposed core fold it over and set it into the center of the post like a do any string. It doesn't seem ideal but it seems to hold and I got two solid wraps around the post.
Has anyone experienced something like this? Is it possible the 40-100s have a shorter string than the 45-105? Also my 08 Geddy Lee doesn't seem to overlly thick tuning posts but could this be the issue?

I don't use Dunlop Super Brights for myself, but I've installed a few sets of the stainless steel 45-125 on my son's Ibanez in the past and never noticed "a few inches" of the bare core wire. Maybe a manufacturing glitch?

Call or email them!! I've had a few problems in the past and they always made good on it!!
Great customer service in my experience.
BTW, I recommend the Marcus Miller set.

Looking at the pic above, it almost looks like it was intended to be a "long scale" string but the string winder was set to "medium scale" by error.

Yes I have seen that on a few sets of Superbrights. As the previous poster said just contact Dunlop. They have great customer service!

I use the MM SS SUPER BRITES. Had a couple sets where E and A strings died super fast compared to G and D strings. Reached out and they took care of me. Really like these strings. Things happen when things are mass produced.

you don't actually cut the string on a G string. You just cut off the extra core.

I'm a big Superbright Nickel fan always clip the core wire off all strings. I've always had enough length for at least 3 wraps. Sounds like there might be an issue with the ones you got.
The only string I actually trim on a bass with 4 inline tuners is the E. The extra wraps on the A keep it from rattling in the nut when the string is open.

In the picture it looks like the string(s) are wound from the bottom to the top of the tuner? Maybe an optical ellusion.

Yes, I only cut the exposed core on the G. I do see that you have a thinner tuning peg than my Geddy Lee. I believe that is where the issue is.

I have a PB which I'm going to assume is about the same length from the tail piece to tuner as your JB. I use DR Lo Riders.

When I cut the G string, I stretch the string through the tail piece up to the top of the head stock. I leave about 3.5" above tuning peg and make the cut there. This will give you plenty of wrap. I also use the same amount for the D and A strings. A bit shorter for the E. I've never had a problem with strings unraveling, and I never crimp either. I do stretch them as I'm bringing them up to tune.

Now flats, which I don't use, I would definitely recommend crimping and being a bit more tidy with the measurements for best results.
