ProCo Rat 2

i have a vodka mods rat 2. its awesome. love it.
some other bass players who have non modded rat 2s have borrowed it and says it blows them away. still loses a lil bit of low end but i can live with it as i have it on most of thw time and just bump the bass eq on my SVT. if i was switchign it on/off all teh time it may bother me more tho.

ATTENTION OLD RAT FANS!!!! Hey, they don't make them like they use to. Heck, they don't make like they did last year, so if you are hoping our Rat mods will make your pedal sound like the one you remember 10, 15 years ago.... might not be the thing to hope for! These pedals have changed so much over time, and only the Name Badge is the same. They act very differently. So, if you had favorite settings, etc., buy an old one and check it out. Some folks say ours nail it perfectly, others hear some nuances in the old one they are just addicted to.

I'm glad I picked up a RAT2 today from a local used gear shop for $30. I dated the pots and its circa 87'

I've also got a vodka mods custom RAT2 which is awesome!!!......well it will be once I get a replacement pot, as when replacing one of my knobs, the shaft pulled straight out and broke!:bawl: (nothing to do with the work of Vodka Mods!). Apparently this is a common problem from Proco using cheap pots now.

So far both Proco and their distributors have been entirely unhelpful in providing a replacement for a part that only they produce! Especially considering their 'no questions asked' lifetime warranty!

So, if anyone has a spare 'Filter' pot lying around give me a shout as my lovely RAT2 has been out of action for nearly 2 months now.

For me the RAT2 replaced a Fulltone Bassdrive, Xotic BB Preamp and an Aguilar Tonehammer to give me the sound I want (low gain drive).

i run a ruetz modded rat 2, from just before the production moved to china. The mod involves snipping out one of the resistors in the input stage. this means all my signal goes into the relatively low gain half of the circuitry, and retains much more low end than stock. it still kills with the distortion up full and the filter totally rolled off, gives a nice overdrive with the dist about 1 o'clock too. when i run the distortion on full with an overdrive pedal before it, well that's a whole new world of apocalypse heralding fun...

So I as tried my used Rat2 yesterday the only way to get a strong distorted signal is when the distortion knob was past 2 o'clock. Any setting between 2 and 11 o'clock and the distortion is faint. When the knob is rolled all the way back there is no signal. Is this normal? I tried it on a practice amp but I don't think the low output volume is the problem. Whats the deal here?

Hey thanks for clearing things up. I thought it was normal but had to ask. the full blown sound is boobies.

get chopping and behold the utter fuzz drenched feedback soaked brilliance a rat 2 can provide with none of the tinny nastiness it usually does at higher gain settings... i run it with a VERY mild scoop in my mids, from a jazz V to a ashdown mag 300 with a 4x10 and 1x15. glory!

pretty much knackers it for guitar though...

The same thing has happened to me with recent ehx pots, just fyi. I don't think it's just a proco thing...
