Pink Floyd!!!

Never heard any guitarist putting more emotion in a solo than david Gilmour. He is not incedible fast nor is his technique extraordinary... But he beats 'em all... With extraordinary songwriting of wright/waters. I also never saw another band that brought performance-on-stage to that level without being dependent of it
One of my biggest mistakes of my life was to not go to Live8 in London when they played together... Now I have no chance anymore...

Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon kicks Rush's best album Moving pictures everyday and twice on Sunday. Dark side of the moon is on the top ten selling albums all time. That's all I got to say. Rock on!

Totally different bands, IMO. There's no way to compare them. Both are very good in their own way.

You need to listen to Pink Floyd's Meddle, then see if you still feel that way.

I've listened Meddle a few times and album-wise Rush's discography is still far more diverse.
Compare Fly by Night to 2112 to Hemispheres to Moving Pictures to Grace Under Pressure to Presto to Counterparts, etc. (all these albums sound vastly different from each other) and you'd see there are not many bands that can touch Rush when it comes to musical diversity of catalogue. Big majority of PF catalogue is just an "atmospheric" rock.

Don't get me wrong: I'm a huge Rush fan. And you're probably right.

If we are talking which bands members can beat the other at some sort of measurable sporting event, then we can say who is "better". Anything else is purely a personal subjective opinion.

Oh and Rush all the way!
Pretty sure RUSH would be better hockey players.

Honestly, neither band is my most favorite, but I have to give the edge to PF.

I think that Geddy, Alex and Neil are (were) nice guys and I would play hockey with them any old day. (I couldn’t keep up musically.)

I feel like Roger Waters is a grumpy old man, but I don’t know much about the others. I could probably out-skate them, though.

Let me tell a true story.

I was at Lackland AFB in San Antonio when DSOTM was released. I was in “casual” waiting for my deployment orders.

One of the guys had a boombox. We’re all hanging around killing time and he tunes in a radio station playing DSOTM. EVERYONE was paying attention. We had never heard anything like it in our young lives.

A couple months later I was deployed to Bangkok Thailand. Bangkok had the equivalent of a US underground FM station, hosted in Thai of course. Guess what it was playing almost nonstop? DSOTM.

There was something revolutionary and yet accessible about that album. It was uncharted musical territory unlike anything else.

Rush? Chops, but mostly not engaging. Respect, but meh.

Let the flaming begin! :D

The Floyd when I’m feeling introspective and thoughtful.
Rush when I want to Air Drum like a crazy 16 year old me (which was how old I was when YYZ was released) and not care who’s watching.

There’s no wrong answer. Just either/or, depending on how I feel.

Yes, there's not much variation between these songs ... /s
