progressive rock recordings / bands

I Love Prog Rock.jpg

Hey have we discussed Happy the Man in general here, and in particular the relatively new re-mastered versions of the first two albums? Of course the material is fantastic—one of the greatest Progereessive Rock bands ever—so unique. And finally for the first time in almost 50 years you can hear the BOTTOM end! They albums were always lacking the low end. One of them was at the wrong pitch too. And the high end is restored along with the removal of excess hiss.

You really owe it to yourself to get them. It is truly almost like hearing the records for the first time.

(Yes, I am pals with Rick Kennell and have helped him and his amazing pianist wife Leah Waybright in the past on a few projects, so I am somewhat biased. I feel Leah’s CDs have a place in the Progressive Pantheon as well…they even have a number of the HTM guys on the CDs, She has such a wonderful gift. Her compositions are wonderful!)

Listened to some of SW's Yes remixes... they were clearer in terms of instrument definition, but not necessarily better to my ears. Maybe I'm used to the original mixes, but I don't prefer SW's takes, and thought they didn't quite gel the same as the originals... subjective as that may be. Appreciate his work but don't think everything he touches turns to gold.

I agree. I prefer the originals too. But that goes for most remixes. Also the Terry Brown Grace Under Pressure Rush remix.

I haven't listened to all of his remixes but I'd really love to hear some of them with ATMOS. I can only imagine stuff like Yes would sound very cool in that manner.

SW impresses me most with the mixing of his solo albums. The raven album is probably my favourite of his mix wise but they're all so good sounding.

I will say that the Steven Wilson remix of Fragile is really good. The CD copy I had was simply awful in terms of clarity. It was a huge improvement.
