Protools 8 lag/ latency?

Hey guys, i just installed protools 8 and have been trying to record some things except Im having a little trouble. Theres a slight delay on the monitor, so after i play its like a half second before I can hear it. This is throwing me off because I am trying to record to a beat that I made. Anyone know how to fix this?:help:

Look at your H/W Buffer Size. It should be somewhere around Setup - > Playback Engine (that's where it is in PT9) If it is high, lower it. It will take more processor power to run but do that during tracking to get as low latency as possible.

Also, what interface are you using?

The term that you are looking for is Latency, if you have a copy of the Reference Guide. Search on that and you'll find a bunch of information in the Reference Guide.

Good luck!

Which interface are you using? I've been helping a friend set up a new Mbox Pro studio and dealing with the latency is completely different from any other interface and it's been a bear to create a low latency set up, really screwy, because PT and the MboxPro control panel are independent programs that don't communicate well with each other. Is it one of these, or a different one? Which OS?

If it's another interface you also should be able to monitor that track in input, which is helpful if you can't lower the buffer enough.
