Stanley Clarke and Lieber Instruments are getting together to create a limited # of spellbinders in 2007....:eek: ..I have managed to purchase 2 of the prototypes to add to my bass family !!!:hyper: More info as it develops,,below pics of some of the prototypes,,,,:ninja:

These shapes are taken from the 1980 clarke spellbinders(53 made -50 short scale,2 long scale and a prototype !) that were made of a composite material!..the 2007 modelswill be made out of Quater Spruce and will be long scale..............:cool:

One of the composite shortscales being reissued would interest me, but not these unfortunately and for the spec they're a bit exxy. Sort of cute though.

So I shouldn't save up for one? Secondhand they seem to bring big $ when they do come up and whilst it's be nice to add to the collection, perhaps a Status Kingbass would be better. Or you could sell me your graphite necked Series 2 to go with my S1 and SC. :)

the composite SS are extremely top heavy and heavy...the prototpes are much lighter and balanced..I have a short and long scale composite....the 2007 from my understanding are going to be long scale...I prefer short scale with Birdsongs my choice but enjoy playing with these prototypes..they are very confortable...as for sound ..I am still experimentig but happy..I play thru acoustic amps..mainly my 370/371 and 122 model...I am trying to find owners of the 80s spellbinders.:help: .any help would be appreciated !!!

For the price of a new Spellbinder, I could likely get a secondhand Alembic Series bass. There's nothing in the Spellbinder that strikes me as being work close to $4k.

The thing that struck me about the original (a short-scale, BTW) I played was the mids...it seemed to have that John Taylor '80s honk tone. Would you agree, CT?
Dharma...luckily you hipped me to your sense of humor in that other thread. Otherwise, an icy :eyebrow: woulda been headed your way for that comment about my 'lembic.:D
PS -- the mold in which the original Spellbinders were cast was destroyed, supposedly so no more could ever be made. So much for that, eh?
