You don't want to do that. Trust me.

heya guys

this might be preaching to the choir for most of you fellas, but i had an interesting experience. had my board on for a while (about 3 or 4 hours) yesterday, and lo-and-behold, the wall-wart powering my huckv2 melted onto the powerstrip.

thankfully the huck was undamaged, but the wall-wart is a complete loss, and it actually melted the plastic around the powerstrip outlet slightly. i imagine it could have started a fire if i hadn't kept my eye on things.

so check your warts.

MY WARTS ARE MELTING!!!

Were you powering something that exceeded the current rating of your supply?

no. most single-9v powered pedals should be fine with 200 ma warts, i'd think, and this was a 400 ma. wart was just screwed up, must've had an internal short.

What would cause that? A short of some sort, I reckon--but how could one possibly detect that this was going to happen?

exactly - hard to tell something like this is gonna happen until it does.

need to get batteries for the digital camera, i'll try to get a pic of the wreckage heh.

So if your air conditioner goes on the
fritz, your washing machine blows up...

...or your video recorder conks out...

...before you call the repairman...

...turn on the lights,
check the closets and cupboards...

...look under all the beds.

Because you never can tell.

There just might be
a prog-metal bassist in your house.

ROFL! i knew it was my fault :atoz: :hyper:

the day my mutronIII arrived, i accidently left it, my two 1spots, and the adaprot fot my whammy IV all plugged in overnight.

everything was fine, but the adaptors were warm.

i got lucky

well, that's the way it oughta be, tbh.

whenever i get new gear or rig up a new config, i've always tired to do a "burn in" period of about 6-8 hours where the units are just on, but not being used, or at most used sporadically, just for this reason. if a piece of gear, or a wall wart or some such, is gonna burn out, hopefully it will do it then, and not when i'm a) AFK (not babysitting the gear), or, even worse, b) at a gig.

still, this was unexpected - i didn't notice it until after it had burned out.

upon reflection, though, i probably was never in that much danger. the wart failed to an open circuit, at least according to my multimeter. the strip i'm using has a breaker in it, for shorts, which didn't fire.

still, made something of a slight smelly mess, and would have really sucked if it killed my huckleberry.

How many wall warts do you use? Shouldn't need more than four.....

How did you come up with that number?

A real bassist doesn't need more than four wall warts.

this follows me, everywhere i go.

"sir, jaco only needed 4 sugars in his coffee"

"yo, bub, jaco only needed 4 car lengths behind the next car! get moving!"

"excuse me, mr. turner, were you aware that jaco only needed 4 pleats in his suit pants?"

"would you like the jaco special? only 4 french fries with your burger."

"jaco was fine getting only 4 paychecks a year. what is this -"i'd like to get paid every month" crap? you think you're better than jaco?"

:atoz:
