Psychedelic Black Rock? Ghost (BC)

I know that taste is a personal thing, and I recently discovered a band that, while I enjoy their heavier brethren (black metal), it never occurred to me to look at the lighter end of the spectrum, and I must say...I'm really enjoying this particular band.

Ghost (BC) is a mashup of psychedelic rock mixed with the imagery and lyrical content of black metal. They're VERY bass heavy and bass driven, which is part of their appeal to me. I can't give a name to the bass player because of the band forbids it and wish to remain anonymous. The band is quoted as saying that they don't want anyone to know who they really are. Only the important people know their true identities. The backing band are collectively known as the "Nameless Ghouls" and are only known as an element, while their lead singer is known as Papa Emeritus. As a whole, they kind of represent an "Anti-Catholic Church"

From the little I know about the bass player, he only plays Fender Jazz's and Precision's, or at least that's all I've seen him play in music videos and concert footage. Whatever the case though, the man has tone for days! Best part of it is, his tone is generally pretty clean (I've listened to the bulk of their two albums already).

Here's the song that I first listened to:

Loved them since day 1. The bass on body and blood is pretty awesome. A single from their third album is out now. Not really safe to post, but one of my brothers got to meet them and had a pretty interesting story out of it.

(PS sorry for choppy text writing from phone)!

I just recently got into listening to Ghost myself after hearing them on Liquid Metal.I was somewhat surprised they were on the station as they're not quite as heavy as you would think being played there. Then I watched a few videos and I saw why. They really put on a great show from what I've seen.

Apparently it's a kind of an open secret that at least part of the lineup is Swedish death metal band Repugnant. That's mostly what I've heard from friends who are much more into the scene than I am.

I do like Ghost, though. Their anti-religious act is a bit much sometimes, but it seems more for a show rather than to denigrate Christianity, which I'm ok with.

Pretty sure the bassist uses the Orange AD200 head and requisite 2 4x10s when I've seen them live. There's been multiple lineup changes in this band and I'm pretty sure they are on their 3rd bassist now who is a woman. Last I read some of the ex-band members were suing the singer but that group suing I think only had one original member.

The singer and the guys on the first album also did Magna Carta Cartel.

If that's the case then they're on their fourth bassist. I met them out of character/costume a couple weeks ago behind the venue at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne (Insane show btw, I really left spellbound by the band's performance). A very nice group of lads with fantastic English, though I believe one of the current members might not be Swedish. Tobias was a gentleman and managed to make my fiancé blush. (she's a huge Ghost fan)
