Punchier replacement for SVT-410HLF

Sure, if I want lots of noise, I'm gonna need lots and lots of speakers. I probably should have been more accurate in my OP, but I'm lookin for something in more or less the same form factor than my current cab, with preferably less weight - even though the HLF isn't exactly a heavy cab. It's unlikely that I'll need a big rig live, and given that the reason my cab is now stacked on top of another not for tonal but spatial reasons, I can't really fit two 410's or 212's at our rehearsal place.

I'd love some 12's, but two probably won't move enough air for my needs? Unless they're a modern fEARful sort of design (yeah, I've emailed Alex of Barefaced, that is an option).

GK 12 s if 2 112 s are nt loud enough for ya get 2 212 s they ll punch ya in the head, the gk neo 410 s lack in mids IMO, and if you like a big load Ampeg 810

This is not the first time I've read that the GK NEO410 is a bit scooped. I wonder about the Hartke HX410, many seem to prefer those over the GK stuff and they should also be available locally. Even though I've never liked Hartke as a brand, I'll have to check them out.

Who wouldn't like a 810? But who wants to lug one around - you're from the UK, you know the cars we drive in Europe aren't exactly logistics heaven..

Nah, the Teardrop (nomen est omen?) trailer is perfect, I'll just have to flip the canoe over for the four other guys to ride in.

Now I'd better start looking for that big, old, heavy Trace stuff.

I've been where you are, I had a SVT3 pro and 4x10 & 1x15 ampeg cabs and changed to a Genz Benz shuttle 6 and 2 AE112 bergantinos and its louder than the Ampeg, lighter, and cuts through the on stage volume way better and has great clarity, I was also looking for you, Mark at Bassdirect.com has 2 AE112 used for sale with covers, I love the sound I'm getting from these cabs, can't understand why they discontinued this range, if you have to borrow a few euros to buy them it'll be worth it.

Not bagging on your choices by any means, but the 115 limits what a 410 can do volume wise when you plug them into the same amp. You can only turn up as loud as the lowest power handling cab lets you. That's why it's always best to go matching cabs, as you're doing now.

I just went cab hunting a bit - music shops are dropping like flies thanks to the economy and German and British online dealers but a few good ones are still left. The Hartke dealer are relocating and due to their excellent and informative website I ended up walking in the rain to find out they haven't opened yet.

The GK distributor/dealer on the other hand did have a NEO410 in stock and I tried it out with a Sandberg and a MB500 head. I can safely say the cab sounded like a huge step in the right direction. The sound was even across the neck, and the B string sounded punchy as hell. A lot of this is of course due to the excellent bass, but as mine isn't bad either I'm not very worried.

The price is pretty good also and won't be forever with neodymium prices skyrocketing. I'll have to give this one sole serious thought. Of course on the used market there's nothing remotely interesting, there never is when you're gassing the hardest

Thanks I didn't know that I'm not very good on the tech side of things, have you tried Bergantino cabs and if so what did you think of them, or should i have gone for Genz Benz cabs, thanks.

I had a SVT 410HLF, switched to a Bergantino NV610 & was completely staggered at the clarity, punch & sweet 'vintage' tone-while still clear.
I've since had to lighten my gear due to medical reasons & now have a Bergantino AE410.
But I've tried the HS410 many times.
Both the AE & HS 410's are two of the best 410's around imo.
They're able to sound modern, without sounding 'crisp' or sterile, but are very punchy. Superb cabs
I had a gig a cuppla weeks ago, using my Ampeg SVT 7 PRO> Berg AE410.
Was in a BIG barn of a room & I was worried that I might've needed more speakers, as there was no bass going thru the FOH PA system.
But, the 7 PRO & Berg AE410 handled it superbly.
I know the 7 pro has 1kW of power, but that doesn't mean much if the cab can't handle the power.
Berg cabs LOVE to be 'pushed'.

There are a lot of great cabs on the market...played a couple Genz Benz cabs that sound really good, never played Bergs but hear good things about them, but my favorite Ampeg cabs hit my sweet spot in a way nothing else does.

Don't they just make an 810e cut in half? Don't change a thing just cut the Damn thing in half lol. For punch and just plain old mean tone you can't really beat a svt cab. It's just too Damn big sometime lol.

410he is an 810 cut in half + tweeter. Not built identically but has the sound.

I have 2 Avatar B410 Neo cabs that have all the mid - punch I can dream of powered by an 800w Markbass LM III.

Avatar also makes a B210Neo. These cabs are lightweight and built like a Mack Truck. You're buying direct from the manufacturer so there's your cost savings.

Oh dear. I've been in contact with Alex from Barefaced about his Super Twelve cab, and I think that's what I'll be going for. I've been looking at his products for quite a while now and with my 30th birthday coming up I guess I'm allowed to splurge... umm, invest a bit We'll see.

E: I live on the wrong continent for Avatar to be a bargain or indeed even a possibility.

The horn on the 410HE is adjustable, I think. Plus, if all else fails, horns can always be disconnected.

I think it should too. For whatever reason - his convincing rants perhaps - Alex's stuff has been the only thing I've consireded upgrading to for the last couple of years - that being if I ever should "upgrade". I sold my SVPCL because I never managed to get a passable tone out of it, I was much happier with the cheap old BBE I replaced it with. I guess Ampeg just isn't for me - especially as a standard SVT/810 rig just isn't a viable option for me logistics wise.

We'll see how it plays out.

So the HLF is gone and payment has been made for a BF Super Twelve, sans tweeter. In my future I see... a couple of weeks of intolerable anticipation.
