hey ive been trying to find the staple, standard punk bass eq. Its hard for me to find it for my bands recording. I just want a simple eq setting that people usually use and add my own style to it. I've been playing out of a mark bass amp, and maybe thats it, b/c those amps are really warm in tone? idk. my bass is a fender deluxe percision (mexi one with the jazz pick up added) should i turn my pickups all the way so the percision pickups play? gimme some ideas!!! lol

You'll hear that it's all in your attack... and yeah, it is, but IMO for you to get some dynamics out of your attack you have to pull off of the 12' a bit.
If you're actually working with some kind of EQ you'll want the mids up at about 75 - 100%. Make sure you don't loose too much low end... the band still needs you to fill that space.
I know it sounds like an lol question but there are some incredibly well recorded punk albums. Listen to the bass on Punk in Drublic and tell me that dialing in that tone is cake.

Punk bass tones vary pretty considerably, but I run my PJ squier (dimarzio pups) full on both volumes, tone knob at about the 3 o clock and bump the mids on the amp. I play punk with a pick most of the time for the attack I can achieve, and adjust by playing closer to/further from the bridge. A lot of guys run a lot of high end but I prefer to remain bass-y. I set my graphic eq in a frown favoring the bass a smidge and only really chopping the highest freqs to below the 0 setting. P bassers, add a little more on the tone knob for essentially the same sound.
Punk is DIY!!!! asking other people for the proper punk EQ automatically makes it NOT PUNK. Also, punk is anti-establishment and anti-norm, so setting anything to the "staple, standard punk bass eq" also makes it NOT PUNK. Basically, your whole post is a contradiction in terms.

Sure, punk is all aobut not giving a rats pitoot, but I'd rather sound like Matt than Sid. If punk was all about non conformity and such, it wouldn't even be a genre, and we could consider a guy in sperry loafers and a members only jacket punk. If there are no criteria, how can you say something isn't punk? Saying something isn't punk because punk is all about no rules is a true contradiction in terms.
Ask an accomplished punk bass player if he ever adjusts his amp to getwhat he likes and I'll bet they answer "Of course!".

I was failing at attempting to mock the "so open minded my brain fell out" crowd that often patrol these waters. I really do think the punk sound is fairly situational to the band. As a counterpoint to my own post, I doubt if you asked any punk bassist what tonewoods were best for his style, which fingerboard material he preffered and whether or not he thinks poly is better than nitro, he is going to look at you cross eyed!

+1 ...bass tone for punk has more to do with dressing appropriately (but you probably can't go wrong by just cranking everything...)
I disagree. My tone is best found when I wear tony llamas, stetson, levis and buckle. Although I do wear a Fred Perry polo shirt as a shout out. Dressing all punk makes my sound too "artificial", because being punk is so cliche and not punk anymore.
What you need to do is turn everything to 8/10, put the gain just beyond break up. Play with a hard attack behind the pickups, then when you think everything sounds perfect screw it up just a bit somehow, so you leave everyone thinking "Wow, that sounds like it could be perfect, but he doesn't care enough to fix it!"
