Punk+ Metalcore==???

What do you get when you get punk + metalcore? I am auditioning for a band sometime soon, and while it may not be too serious, I want to know if I should show up dressed in any way, bring a pick, or if none of it really matters, and what's the best bass for metal ?(hehe).

Do I need to show up with more than my chops?

If they dont like you for who you are what is the point? I understand that in a live show setting some sort of mild theme is expected, but for an audition or practice genre shouldnt dictate dress.

My hardcore band tried out a non-hardcore vocalist who tried to dress the part for his audition and it was completely pathetic. Just do your thing and if it works, it works.

If you're more worried about the way you're going to look in the audition, maybe you're in it for the wrong reasons. Likewise, if the band judge you more on your looks than your playing, that says a lot about their priorities and how far they're likely to go. I know the "core" genre is very trendy amongst suburban kids and most start their "bands" for popularity or to pull girls. Coincidentally, these popularity-hungry bands also all sound horrible.

As far as what (pop) punk + metalcore sounds like, look up A Day To Remember...easily one of the most popular "core" bands in recent years. I'm spotting a lot more ADTR clones trying to pop up in the scene.

As far as what bass to take, just about anything you've got works. P-bass or a Jazz bass will fit the bill perfectly. Hell, you'll probably even get away with playing a bass with a single volume control. You'll just really need a nice low end. Tone isn't nearly as important in punk or "core" music than in other styles.

Camo shorts and a sleeveless black t-shirt would fit the bill, and it also seconds as my gig clothes, my weekend clothes, my going to the mall clothes, and wedding garb. Although, I will wear a nice pair of jeans and a plain black sleeved shirt to a wedding if asked to by the bride...... and if she has whorey friends.

actually, scratch that. Bring a spandex speedo, a trenchcoat, and some aviator goggles. You'll fit right in.

Just play well enough and if they're more into looks than how you play I wouldn't bother with them. I've played punk and hardcore for over nine years and never really looked the part but it didn't bother my bandmates. I wear jeans or shorts and random tshirts to anything...

Yea, well, thats just like, your opinion, man...

Though, OP, I consider the existence of "metalcore" music downright insulting, my advice is to play/show up as comfortable as you can. Only bring a pick if you feel comfortable using a pick, wear what you feel is appropriate, etc. Don't audition for a band that you'd have to change to be in.

The only problem I've ever had with the metalcore bands I auditioned for was their unwillingness to do Shakira covers. That was always a dealbreaker for me.

Don't wear a suit, don't wear all black, don't show up with filthy unwashed hair, avoid no-fun-club true-pop-punk band shirts and you'll be all right. Bringing a pick and asking if they want it is a good way to show flexibility, but isn't necessary.

The easiest way to know how to dress is to call and ask. If they want you dressed a specific way, they'll tell you.

I am not a big huge fan of either punk or metalcore, but I do love music, and it is music so it should be fun.

So I'll show up, wear what I want. Gonna bring a pick, use it if they want me to, bring the warwick,

and I did like the idea of a speedo trenchcoat and aviators....not really, it's too cold here
