I am new to talkbass my old guitar is an acoustic/electric China made Mac Smith guitar which i only use for practice and i have to borrow my neighbor's son bass when we have to do a gig. hehe. now i wanted to buy my first real bass guitar and im deciding between an Ibanez ATK 300 and a Washburn cb14, my band covers a wide range of genre from the beatles to sting to red hot chili peppers. pop, blues, rock if it sounds good we play it.
i have tested both the guitars at different stores so i haven't had the chance to compare them side by side.
I tried the washburn first, it has active electronics, a narrow neck(which i think is good for me because i have short stubby fingers) and you can really feel the wood I think its not laminated. the salesman plugged it on a large Hartke amp which im not sure of the model, it sure does sound like bass to me, i can only compare it with my old bass and it is was way much better.
then i went to the next store where i tried the ATK which is also active, but the neck is wide but it feels smooth to me and comfortable too. plugged it on a small hartke amp and i was surprised that it sounded solid with that small amp, i tried the small toggle switch and it gave me a different sound with each switch position, which i think is kinda nice
my problem is i can't differentiate the sound of the two guitars, i can only compare it really with my old guitar which i am used to and they both sound really good to me, can anyone share their experiences of each of the guitar. i would really appreciate it.
Thanks
